Cornish Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church is a wood-frame structure with arched ceiling beams that show the scars and shapes of salvaged sailing ship timbers. It sits on Whitehead Street as the oldest African Methodist Episcopal Zion congregation in Florida. The building rose from a foundation of limestone quarried directly from the site, with parishioners using wooden pegs to join the heavy timbers that form its frame.
