Richard Peacon House

The Richard Peacon House on Eaton Street is easily spotted by its unusual eight-sided footprint, a rare design known as an octagon house. Built around eighteen eighty-five for Richard Peacon, a prominent local grocer and a founder of the Island City National Bank, the structure is one of only two surviving buildings of its type in Key West. Its geometric form, intended by mid-nineteenth-century architects to provide better light and air circulation, makes the residence stand out among the more traditional rectangular homes in the neighborhood.
