Chippewa Square

Chippewa Square is defined by a central bronze statue of General James Oglethorpe, the founder of the Georgia colony, who stands on a pedestal designed by architect Henry Bacon and sculpted by Daniel Chester French. Laid out in eighteen fifteen to commemorate the American soldiers who fought at the Battle of Chippawa during the War of eighteen twelve, the square serves as a quiet green anchor along Savannah’s bustling Bull Street.
