The Owens-Thomas House and Slave Quarters is identifiable by its stucco exterior and the large cast-iron balcony on its south facade, which overlooks Oglethorpe Square. Completed in eighteen nineteen, this mansion is a prominent example of English Regency architecture, designed by the architect William Jay for merchant Richard Richardson. Unlike the traditional red-brick buildings common to Savannah, this house features curvilinear walls and an early system of indoor plumbing.
