Poetter Hall

Poetter Hall stands on Bull Street as a fortress-like structure of red brick, defined by its asymmetric towers and massive Romanesque arches. Completed in eighteen ninety-three, it originally served as the Savannah Volunteer Guards Armory. The building was designed by Boston architect William Gibbons Preston, who incorporated balconies intended for guards to watch military parades from above. Two twenty-four-pounder cannons, which were discovered buried under the site of the previous armory, flank the entrance today.
