The Hamilton-Turner Inn is recognizable by its grand Second Empire architecture, featuring a mansard roof and a limestone exterior that rises prominently over Lafayette Square. Built in eighteen seventy-three for the prominent businessman Samuel Pugh Hamilton, the mansion was designed to be a centerpiece of Savannah society. Hamilton, who earned the nickname the Lord of Lafayette Square, spared little expense in creating a residence that could host lavish gatherings for the city's elite.
