The Wells Fargo Center rises fifty-seven stories above downtown Minneapolis, defined by a granite facade and a series of stepped rooftops that are illuminated by floodlights from sunset until midnight. Completed in nineteen eighty-eight, the tower occupies the site of the former Northwestern National Bank Building, which was destroyed in a massive fire in nineteen eighty-two.
