The Hermitage Hotel is a ten-story Beaux-Arts structure at two hundred thirty-one Sixth Avenue North, identifiable by its grand exterior of coupled Ionic columns and polychrome terra cotta ornamentation. When it opened on September seventeenth, nineteen ten, it was Nashville’s first million-dollar hotel, designed by local architect James Edwin Ruthven Carpenter. The interior features a lobby with a vaulted, painted glass ceiling and Tennessee marble flooring, elements that greeted guests from its very first night.
