Woolworth Theatre

The Woolworth Theatre occupies a historic building at two twenty-three Rep. John Lewis Way North, identifiable by the distinctive ironwork along its mezzanine that has been incorporated into the venue's official logo. Originally completed in the eighteen nineties, the structure gained national notice in nineteen sixty when it became a primary site for lunch counter sit-ins. During that period, students from local historically Black colleges held peaceful protests at the store's segregated lunch counter to challenge discriminatory laws.
