Morris Memorial Building

The Morris Memorial Building is a Neoclassical structure marked by a heavy cornice with modillion blocks and a roofline frieze of garlands and wreaths. It sits at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, constructed between nineteen twenty-four and nineteen twenty-six to house the Sunday School Publishing Board of the National Baptist Convention. The firm that designed it, McKissack and McKissack, was the first African American architectural firm in the United States and maintained its own offices inside for many years.
