The National is a fifty-two-story skyscraper in downtown Dallas, recognizable by its dark-gray glass and white marble exterior. Upon its completion in nineteen sixty-five as the First National Bank Tower, it held the title of the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. Architects George Dahl and Thomas E. Stanley designed the structure to rise from an eight-story base, utilizing over twenty-five thousand tons of steel.
