The Dallas Museum of Art is defined by a rectilinear facade of Indiana limestone and a prominent barrel-vaulted roof that runs parallel to Flora Street. Architect Edward Larrabee Barnes designed this facility, which opened in nineteen eighty-four as the first anchor for the city's downtown arts district. The building’s entry court features a circular fountain and four live oak trees in square beds, creating a deliberate sequence of movement that directs people from the urban streetscape into the galleries.
