Dallas County Courthouse

The Dallas County Courthouse, widely known as Old Red, is identifiable by its distinctive rust-colored Pecos sandstone exterior, punctuated by massive round arches and a series of turrets. Completed in eighteen ninety-two, the building was designed in the Richardsonian Romanesque style to replace a series of previous courthouses that had been destroyed by fire. Architect Max A. Orlopp Jr. used iron framing and heavy masonry to create a structure intended to be fireproof and to reflect the growing prominence of the county during the late nineteenth century.
