The six-story Purse Building at six hundred one Elm Street is recognizable by its red brick facade and the weathered, ghostly painted sign of the former furniture company that gave the structure its name. Built in nineteen oh five, it was the first building in Dallas to feature a cast-iron exterior. It began its life as a warehouse for the Parlin and Orendorff Implement Company, serving the agricultural needs of the region before becoming the home of Purse and Company Wholesale Furniture in nineteen twenty-eight.
