First Ferry and Bridge

The site of the First Ferry and Bridge is marked by a Texas State Historical Marker on Commerce Street, just west of South Houston Street. This spot commemorates the humble crossing that provided the original connection over the Trinity River. In eighteen forty-two, John Neely Bryan, the founder of Dallas, launched the city’s first ferry here to help travelers navigate the water.
