The Statler Dallas occupies a distinct Y-shaped footprint at the intersection of Commerce and Saint Paul Streets, marked by a curtain wall of glass and teal-colored porcelain panels. Opened in nineteen fifty-six as the Statler Hilton, the nineteen-story building introduced advanced construction techniques to the city, including a cantilevered reinforced flat-slab system that allowed for open, airy interior spaces. It was the first major hotel built in Dallas in nearly thirty years and quickly became a center for business and entertainment, famously offering guests the first-ever elevator music and Westinghouse televisions in every room.
