Salamanca Arts Centre

The Salamanca Arts Centre is defined by a row of Georgian warehouses built in the eighteen thirties from sandstone quarried by convicts. These heavy, textured buildings originally stored whale oil, grain, and imported goods for the busy shipping port of Hobart. When the local jam manufacturing industry collapsed in the mid-twentieth century, the warehouses were left empty and decaying for years.
