Town Hall

The Hobart Town Hall is a landmark sandstone building characterized by a symmetrical, three-bay portico supported by Tuscan columns. Completed in eighteen sixty-six, the structure was designed by architect Henry Hunter, who drew inspiration from the Palazzo Farnese in Rome. It stands on a site previously occupied by the colony's government house, a space that once served as the administrative center for the early settlement of Van Diemen's Land.
