Franklin Square is a slanted, one-block park in Hobart defined by its canopy of mature oak trees and the central monument to the British explorer and former lieutenant-governor, Sir John Franklin. The square sits on the site of the first substantial Government House, which was demolished in eighteen fifty-eight after years of serving as a colonial administrative hub.
