The Odeon Theatre on Liverpool Street is defined by a massive, century-old facade that conceals a cavernous, unpolished interior. Opened in nineteen sixteen as The Strand, the building was funded by Tasmanian mining merchant E.J. Miller, who envisioned a world-class venue to rival the grand picture houses of Europe and America. Upon its completion, the mayor of Hobart famously declared it the finest building in all of Tasmania.
