Parliament House is a colonial Georgian building constructed from golden honey-colored sandstone quarried from the Queen's Domain and Salamanca Place. It stands near the waterfront of Sullivans Cove, distinguished by its classical symmetry and history as a maritime gateway. While it currently houses Tasmania’s legislative chambers, the site was originally commissioned in eighteen thirty to serve as the colony’s Customs House.
