Mawson's Huts Replica Museum

The Mawson's Huts Replica Museum is a small, single-story pine structure on the Hobart waterfront, easily identified by the two brass sled dogs guarding its entrance. It is a faithful reconstruction of the main research hut built in nineteen eleven at Cape Denison, Antarctica, by the Australasian Antarctic Expedition led by Sir Douglas Mawson. To ensure authenticity, the museum was built using hundreds of photographs and precise measurements taken from the original site. Even the Baltic pine used for the flooring and cladding was sourced from the same region in Scandinavia as the timber supplied for the original expedition over a century ago.
