Government House, Western Australia

historic

Government House is a two-story mansion of red brick and stone, marked by its decorated gables and ogival capped turrets. It stands on Saint Georges Terrace as the official residence of the Governor of Western Australia. This is the third building to serve this purpose on the site, constructed between eighteen fifty-nine and eighteen sixty-four largely by convict labor. The house sits within eight acres of gardens that reach toward the Swan River, maintaining a link to the earliest days of the Swan River Colony in eighteen twenty-nine.
