Stirling Gardens

park garden

Stirling Gardens is the oldest public garden in the city of Perth, recognizable by the life-sized bronze kangaroo sculptures and the lush, shaded lawn that sits at the corner of Barrack Street and St Georges Terrace. First established in the eighteen thirties, it served as an acclimatization garden where the colonial botanist James Drummond raised plants from seeds to see how they would fare in the new colony. By eighteen forty-five, the site was officially gazetted as a public botanical garden and park.
