Lamont's Bishops House is a two-story Victorian Georgian residence tucked behind heritage-listed gardens, encircled by the glass and steel of the Perth central business district. Built in eighteen fifty-nine for Mathew Blagden Hale, the first Anglican Bishop of Western Australia, the house stands on land the Bishop personally purchased in eighteen fifty-six. He chose this specific location for its natural spring and expansive grounds, funding the two-thousand-four-hundred-eighty-six-pound construction cost himself while he and his family were away in England.
