Old Perth Boys School

landmark

The Old Perth Boys School at one hundred thirty-nine St Georges Terrace is a single-story limestone building characterized by its steep, iron-covered roof and tall, narrow windows that give it the appearance of a small church. Built in eighteen fifty-four, it stands as the earliest purpose-built government school in Western Australia. The structure was designed by William Ayshford Sanford, the colony's Colonial Secretary, and replaced an assortment of temporary locations where classes had been held since eighteen forty-seven.
