Lawson Flats

Lawson Flats is an eleven-storey apartment block identifiable by its symmetrical stone facade and massive, twin-towered form that rises above Sherwood Court. Constructed in nineteen thirty-seven, the building is a prominent example of Inter-War Commercial Palazzo style. It was built by the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society to signal economic recovery in Perth following the Great Depression. At the time of its completion, the building served as one of the city's first luxury apartment developments, designed by architects Hennessy, Hennessy and Company alongside Reginald Summerhayes.
