Piccadilly Arcade

The Piccadilly Arcade is defined by its long, pedestrian passage connecting Hay Street to Murray Street, marked at its entrances by distinct, pylon-style towers and a history rooted in the nineteen thirties. Designed by architect William T. Leighton for mining magnate Claude de Bernales, the structure opened in nineteen thirty-eight as part of a grand entertainment and retail complex. At the time of its completion, it represented a major project for the city, incorporating Art Deco flair with modern amenities that included the first air-conditioned cinema in Western Australia.
