The Deanery

religious

The Deanery is a two-story brick residence marked by a steeply pitched roof and a front loggia defined by a battlemented parapet. Constructed in eighteen fifty-nine, it stands at the corner of Saint Georges Terrace and Pier Street, directly adjacent to Saint Georges Cathedral. Architect Richard Roach Jewell designed the building for the first Dean of Perth, George Purves Pownall, using labor from former convicts who had earned their tickets of leave.
