Afro-Brazilian Museum UFBA

The Afro-Brazilian Museum, known locally as Mafro, occupies the historic Faculty of Medicine building on the Terreiro de Jesus. This structure once housed the Royal Jesuit College, founded between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, and later became the first school of medicine in Brazil. The institution, run by the Federal University of Bahia, officially opened its doors in nineteen eighty-two to preserve and study the African heritage that shaped the country.
