The Basilica of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Praia is a massive baroque structure built entirely from blocks of lioz stone transported from Portugal. You can pick it out by this pale, carved stone facade, which anchors the church at the foot of the slope connecting Salvador’s Upper and Lower Cities.
