Mercado Modelo

The Mercado Modelo stands out in the Comércio neighborhood as a large, yellow neoclassical building positioned directly across from the Lacerda Elevator. It was originally constructed in eighteen sixty-one as the third Customs House for the port of Salvador. The structure became a dedicated market in nineteen seventy-one, bringing together artisans and vendors into a space that had once processed all international trade arriving by sea.
