Escadaria do Passo

The Escadaria do Passo is a set of fifty-five stone steps that climb a steep hillside in the historic center of Salvador. It serves as the dramatic entrance to the Igreja do Santíssimo Sacramento do Passo, a church constructed in seventeen thirty-six. The staircase is built directly into the slope, creating a monumental approach that has long defined the local landscape.
