The Church and Convent of Our Lady of the Conception of Lapa presents a long, two-story white lime wall facing the busy Avenida Joana Angélica. Unlike many other religious sites in Salvador, this building lacks a traditional monumental pediment at its entrance, featuring instead stone portals that open directly to the street. Authorized by King João the Fifth in seventeen thirty-four to provide space for Franciscan nuns, the complex was inaugurated in seventeen forty-four. Its architecture includes a three-story belvedere, constructed around seventeen eighty-five, which once allowed the religious community to view the surrounding landscape from above.
