The Cathedral Basilica of Salvador occupies the west side of the Terreiro de Jesus, marked by a light-colored facade of imported Portuguese Lioz stone. Flanked by two short bell towers and designed in the Mannerist style, the building faces the plaza with three distinct portals topped by stone statues of Jesuit saints. It stands as a solitary remnant of what was once a vast Jesuit monastic and educational complex.
