The Memorial das Baianas stands on the Praça da Cruz Caída in the historic Pelourinho district of Salvador. You can identify the site by the life-sized figures of Baiana women and the display of traditional culinary tools used to prepare acarajé. This space functions as a museum dedicated to the history of the women who trade this iconic Afro-Brazilian street food, which was recognized as part of Brazil’s immaterial cultural heritage by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute in two thousand five.
