The Fairmont Palliser is a twelve-story, brick-and-stone building that has marked the Calgary skyline since nineteen fourteen. Built by the Canadian Pacific Railway to accommodate travelers passing through on their way to the Rocky Mountains, its Edwardian Commercial design features an E-shaped floor plan. The hotel was named after Captain John Palliser, an explorer who surveyed the Canadian prairies during the eighteen fifties.
