Sonic Boom occupies a former warehouse on Spadina Avenue, marked by two floors of retail space that hold one of the city's largest collections of new and used vinyl, cassettes, and CDs. The store operates as an independent music retailer, a business model that founder Jeff Barber launched in Toronto in two thousand and one. At the time, Barber moved into a retail landscape where physical music sales were already declining due to digital file-sharing.
