Plaza Brasil is recognizable by the twenty-two oversized, brightly colored play sculptures at its center. Inaugurated on January twentieth, nineteen oh two, the square was carved out of the city landscape by the Municipality of Santiago, which purchased and demolished buildings along the former glen of Diego García de Cáceres to create the space. The inauguration was held as a formal tribute to Brazil, with representatives from the Brazilian Embassy in attendance to celebrate the new public site.
