The Iglesia San Ignacio features twin towers that were the first in Chile built with reinforced concrete. Designed by French architect Eugenio Joannon Crozier and completed in nineteen hundred, each of these forty-seven meter structures weighs twenty tons. The church stands next to the Colegio San Ignacio, marking the return of the Jesuit order to the city in the nineteenth century. Its neoclassical and Renaissance style replaced the earlier Church of the Company, which was destroyed by a fire in eighteen sixty-three.
