The Santo Domingo Church is identified by the two bell towers that rise above its facade, built from ashlar masonry and stone quarried from Cerro Blanco. This site has served the Dominican order since fifteen fifty-seven, though the current building is the fourth iteration to occupy the land. Earthquakes in fifteen ninety-five, sixteen forty-seven, and seventeen thirty leveled the earlier structures, prompting the construction of this version in seventeen forty-seven under architect Juan de los Santos Vasconcellos.
