Le Bon Marché is defined by its expansive glass and iron framework, designed by architect Louis-Charles Boileau and engineer Gustave Eiffel. Opened in its modern form in eighteen fifty-two, this site occupies a full city block on the Left Bank. It originated as a small haberdashery founded in eighteen thirty-eight, but transformed under the ownership of Aristide and Marguerite Boucicaut.
