Place de l'Eglise d'Auteuil

The Place de l'Eglise d'Auteuil is a rectangular square dominated by the Roman-Byzantine silhouette of the Notre-Dame-d'Auteuil church. This site occupies the former location of the village of Auteuil's original eleventh-century cemetery, which was cleared in the late nineteenth century to accommodate the current church building. An obelisk made of porphyry, erected in seventeen fifty-three to honor the French chancellor Henri François d'Aguesseau, stands on the square as a remnant of the site's history as a parish center.
