The Hôtel d’Avaray stands on the Rue de Grenelle, marked by an elegant stone gateway featuring the coat of arms of the Netherlands. Built starting in seventeen eighteen for Claude-Théophile de Béziade, the Marquis of Avaray, this town house was designed by the architect Jean-Baptiste Leroux. It emerged during a period when the Faubourg Saint-Germain saw a rapid surge in the construction of private aristocratic residences.
