Pont de l'Alma

landmark

The Pont de l’Alma is marked by a limestone figure of a soldier known as the Zouave, which stands on the bridge’s single pier. Inaugurated by Napoleon the Third in eighteen fifty-six, the bridge commemorates the Battle of the Alma, a victory for French and British troops during the Crimean War. Originally, the bridge featured four such military statues, but three were relocated when the structure was replaced between nineteen seventy and nineteen seventy-four to accommodate modern traffic.
