The Hôtel Porgès once dominated this stretch of Avenue Montaigne, a testament to the immense wealth of Jules Porgès. Known as the diamond king, Porgès made his fortune in the mines of South Africa and commissioned the architect Ernest Sanson to build this mansion in eighteen ninety-two. The design drew heavy inspiration from the eighteenth-century Château d'Asnières to satisfy his wife Anna's passion for the French styles of that era. Behind its stately walls, the residence featured a gallery housing works by Rubens and Rembrandt, serving as a social hub for the Parisian elite.
