Stadterhebungsmonument

The Stadterhebungsmonument is a detailed bronze sculpture located at the corner of Josef-Wimmer-Gasse and Müller-Schlösser-Gasse in the Altstadt. Unveiled in nineteen eighty-eight to mark the seven-hundredth anniversary of the city, the monument depicts seventeen historical scenes cast in metal. It was created by the sculptor Bert Gerresheim to chronicle the events of twelve eighty-eight, when the small settlement on the Düssel River was granted city rights by Count Adolf the Fifth of Berg.
