Marktplatz

The Marktplatz is defined by the heavy, dark equestrian statue of Johann Wilhelm the Second that occupies its center. First mentioned in records in thirteen ninety-two, this square has functioned as the city’s hub since the fourteenth century. The seventeenth-century Town Hall, or Rathaus, dominates the square’s perimeter, anchoring a space that has evolved from a medieval trade ground into the primary site for civic life.
