Hofgarten

The Hofgarten is distinguished by its vast, rolling meadows and a network of shaded pathways that bridge the formal geometry of the eighteenth century with the looser, naturalistic style of an English landscape park. Stretching over twenty-seven hectares, this green expanse serves as the oldest public park in Germany. It was established in seventeen sixty-nine by Elector Charles Theodore, who moved away from the era's tradition of private noble grounds by choosing to open these gardens for the city's residents to enjoy.
