The Tonhalle Düsseldorf is defined by its massive, semi-spherical dome that rises prominently on the banks of the river Rhine. Built in nineteen twenty-six by the architect Wilhelm Kreis, the structure was originally designed to serve as the world's largest planetarium for the GeSoLei exhibition, a major showcase for public health and social welfare. A small, gold-colored star remains fixed to the top of the dome today, a faint relic of the building's original intended purpose.
